How Spearmint Tea Reduced and Eliminated My Acne

For months, I have been struggling with acne -- mainly whiteheads. Aside from the occasional hormonal acne, I typically have really good skin. That has not been the case for over half a year now.

I have tried adding new things to my beauty regime: spot treatments, different cleansers, scrubs -- none of which seemed to reduce or eliminate my acne completely.

So what actually worked?

Earlier in May, I came across a Facebook-sponsored article about the benefits of drinking spearmint tea. As with most claims to cure acne, I was quite skeptical. However, being the avid tea-drinker that I am, I thought, "Why not?" What could possibly go wrong? Worst case scenario: spearmint tea is not the cure to acne and I end up drinking a lot of spearmint tea -- no big deal. Best case scenario: I could eliminate my whiteheads for good!

Still, I bookmarked the article and forgot all about it... until a really bad whitehead that appeared while I was away at a music festival. It was the most annoying whitehead I had to deal with as of late. It wasn't the usual whitehead that appeared on my forehead -- it was on the middle of my cheek where anyone and everyone could clearly see (aside from when I was smiling, including photo ops. Thank goodness!)

After that experience, I set out to buy some spearmint tea.

I found this tea on Amazon:
Traditional Medicinals Organic Spearmint Tea: Amazon ranges from $19 - $25 for 16 tea bags

I have been drinking 2 cups of spearmint tea every evening for over a month now. The tea is caffeine-free, so it did not affect my sleep whatsoever. When it came time for my period, I only experienced one whitehead, as opposed to the two or three that I normally get during that time of the month. This was something that had not happened at all this past year in 2017. I was mind blown!

So how does it work?

According to a study conducted in 2015 by the American Academy of Dermatology, "two cups of organic spearmint tea ingested daily reduced inflammatory acne lesions by 25% after one month and by 51% after three months." (SOURCE: Byrdie)
